Welcome to the Urban American Indian Tobacco Prevention & Education Network (UAITPEN) website. The UAITPEN is the tobacco prevention project of the Native American Rehabilitation Association, and is funded by a grant from the Oregon Tobacco Prevention & Education Program. The main goal of this project is to reduce tobacco related disparities in urban American Indian and Alaska Native communities in Oregon.

This program utilizes the Centers for Disease Control recommendations for effective tobacco control programs by:

  • Reducing exposure to secondhand smoke
  • Countering pro-tobacco influences
  • Helping people quit tobacco use
  • Eliminating health disparities

2 out of 5 deaths in Oregon among American Indian and Alaska Natives are tobacco related.
