Nak-Nu-Wit Systems of Care Program

Nak-Nu-Wit is a program of the Native American Rehabilitation Association of the Northwest, Inc. in partnership with the Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board through a grant funded by SAMHSA. Nak-Nu-Wit is a Sahaptin phrase that describes the philosophy and mission of our program, which is “Everything/all things are being taken care of for the people, the people are the

project, our responsibility, our work.”

Nak-Nu-Wit provides advocacy and intensive services to American Indian/Alaska Native youth and families who are working to overcome trauma, find balance and restore their emotional, physical,

mental and spiritual health. Youth  who are served by multiple systems often have several case workers, numerous evaluations and assessments, little communication between systems with minimal involvement of family members. This sometimes results in a lack of the family voice in regard to treatment goals and may lead to disjointed and ineffective service delivery. Nak-Nu-Wit is designed to improve outcomes for Native youth and their families.
